Quick Reviews: Summer Reading

I have been doing really well on reading through my summer reading list and just finished 2 more to add to the review file. I recently read The Kindness of Strangers by Katrina Kittle and The Cellar by Natasha Preston. Both of these books were so intriguing and riveting that I literally couldn't put either down. (which is probably why it only took about a month tops to finish them both) I've mentioned before that I'm not the romantic comedy kind of reader and I really like books that bring out your emotions and expose harsh realities. I don't know why but I love a scary thriller type read or a tear-drops-on-page read. Call me crazy.... anyway first up let's quick review The Kindness of Strangers:

But when a shocking revelation rips apart the family of her closest friend, Sarah finds herself welcoming yet another troubled young boy into her already tumultuous life. Jordan, a quiet, reclusive elementary school classmate of Sarah's son Danny, has survived a terrible ordeal. By agreeing to become Jordan's foster mother, Sarah will be forced to question the things she has long believed. And as the delicate threads that bind their family begin to unravel, all the Ladens will have to face difficult truths about themselves and one another—and discover the power of love necessary to forgive and to heal"

This book was so well-written and it took you straight to the heart of the harsh reality of sicko parents and child molestation and abuse. I know I know..rough stuff for sure. The author really did her research on the subject and goes psychologically deep, not just scratching the surface. By the time this book was done you really felt like you knew this family inside and out. This book will tug at your heart strings with such raw emotion. I highly recommend this read with a fabulous ending.  (you may even want to become a psych major after this one) A+

Next was The Cellar:

"Lily?"
My stomach dropped as a tall, dark-haired man stepped into view. Had he been hiding between the trees?
"No. Sorry." Gulping, I took a step back. "I'm not Lily."
He shook his head, a satisfied grin on his face. "No. You are Lily."
"I'm Summer. You have the wrong person." You utter freak!
I could hear my pulse crashing in my ears. How stupid to give him my real name. He continued to stare at me, smiling. It made me feel sick.
"You are Lily," he repeated.
Before I could blink, he threw his arms forward and grabbed me. I tried to shout, but he clasped his hand over my mouth, muffling my screams. My heart raced. I'm going to die.
For months Summer is trapped in a cellar with the man who took her—and three other girls: Rose, Poppy, and Violet. His perfect, pure flowers. His family. But flowers can't survive long cut off from the sun, and time is running out...

  

 ya'll..this book I couldn't put down. I was finding excuses to keep ready in the middle of the day and not just before bed. I'm giving it a lower score simply because I really didn't care for her writing style (trying to be 'hip', added cuss words..etc.) and her editor SHOULD BE FIRED with all of the grammatical mistakes I saw in this book but I reallllly needed to find out what happened in the end so I just couldn't make myself stop reading. Emotional roller coaster with an edge-of-your-seat plot for sure! B-

So now I don't have a back-up book since I finished this one too quickly- give me some recommendations people! I'm in bed-side reading withdrawal!
